Bluewater In The Year 2000

January 15/ 2000
As our club heads into the inaugural year of the new
millennium we will be faced with one of our most challenging
competitive seasons to date.
First up for the club will be the return to the Quebec
Winter Carnival on February the 5th. Not only will the men (who
return as defending champions in all divisions) be back, but the
ladies team too will be joining as they both go for the gold. As was
the case last year, pulling will be done exclusively on packed snow.
So with less than a month to go, training on the rope will now take
place two nights of the week.
The next stop for the club will take us to an
international competition held in Orfordville, Wisconsin. Taking
place on June 17th, this tournament will be a great pre-season test
for Bluewater as teams will be competing from such countries as
Ireland, England, Wales, Sweden and the Netherlands.
Soon after our return from the U.S. our own league
will resume competitions for the 2000 season. With about a dozen
venues scheduled again for this year.
Looking for as much international competition as
possible, our club will again head to the U.S. for the Irishfest in
Milwaukee, Wisconsin taking place on August the 19th. This will
likely serve as our last major tune up before we head to England for
the World Championships.
Looking ahead to the Worlds, this will be the
calumniation of all the club's hard work since the last Worlds in
Rochester, Minnesota in 1998. The four day competition will take
place from the 14th to the 17th of September in Blackpool, England.
With improved indoor and outdoor training facilities and an increase
of international competition our club will be looking to improve on
its standings from the last World Championships.
