About The Bluewater Tug-of-War Club

The Bluewater Tug-of-War Club is a Non-For Profit Corporation   # 1464926

Who we are:

We are a community-based non-for-profit organization.

We have 32 registered members

We do have men's and women's teams and we focus on the lighter weight classes (Men's 600kg, 640kg and 680kg and  Women's 520kg )

We are in the process of starting a junior team.



Our Goals:

To promote the sport of Tug-of-War as it is practiced in over 28 countries under the rules and regulations of the Tug of War International Federation (TWIF) .

To promote and develop the sport of tug-of-war in a manner that would allow generations of today and tomorrow to support our community on a local, national and international level.
To unite the tug-of-war community, fostering good relations with neighboring associations or clubs in other portions of Canada or internationally for the good and advancement of the sport.

To make it into the medal rounds at the World Championships.



Our Achievements:

2005 European Championships in Cento, Italy

2004 we represented Canada at the World Championships in Rochester, MN finishing in 7th place in the 640 kg weight class

2003 European Championships in Assen, Netherlands

2003 our 2nd International Tournament was again a success.

Our women's 520 kg team wins the bronze medal in the Open Club Competition at the 2002 World Championships in South Africa.

2002 we qualified to represent Canada at the World Championships in Pretoria, South Africa

2001 we held our own International Tournament under the TWIF Rules with teams from Germany, Switzerland, the USA and Canada.

2000 we represented Canada at the World Championships in Blackpool, England

1999 we were the only non European team at a tournament in Stans-Oberdorf, Switzerland

1998 we represented Canada at the World Championships in Rochester, MN

 



We are promoting the Sport of
Tug-of-War

In September 2002 we traveled to Windsor, Nova Scotia to compete against their teams and to do a demonstration of the TWIF-style tug-of-war.

In 1997 and 1998 we traveled to Quebec City to introduce the teams in that area to the TWIF Style Tug-of-War

We host an annual competition at the Hensall Fair for Grade 7 and 8 school children (Boys & Girls). Attendance is now over 120 students.

We held tug-of-war clinics for children at the Bluewater Centre For Young Offenders

We organized tug-of-war clinics for the Pinery Provincial Park Summer Program

Bluewater's Code of Ethics

I will play the game with a spirit of good sportsmanship.
I will conduct myself in an honorable manner both on and off the rope.
I will never knowingly break a rule, but if I do, I will divulge the breach.
I will take no action which could be interpreted as an attempt to intimidate or demean my opponents, teammates or officials.
I will interpret the rules in an impartial manner, always keeping in mind that the purpose of the rules is to ensure that the game is played in an orderly and fair manner.
